SIGIL SARL

Sigil — which one do you mean?

The word sigil is old — from the Latin sigillum, a small seal — and it has never stopped working. Today it names a magical symbol, an ebook editor, a programming convention, a city in a role-playing setting, a video-game currency, and more than one software project. This page lists the current meanings we know of, points each to its own reference, and states plainly which one this site is: SIGIL SARL, a governance-infrastructure company in Buea, Cameroon.

Sigil (common noun)

A seal, sign, or symbol held to carry power — from the Latin sigillum, “small seal”. In modern chaos magic, a sigil is a symbol a practitioner designs to represent an intent.

Sigil (ebook editor)

A free, open-source editor for EPUB ebooks, available for Windows, macOS, and Linux, and widely used in ebook production. No relation to this site.

Sigil (computer programming)

A symbol attached to a variable name to indicate its type or scope — the $ and @ of Perl, or the $ of PHP and shell scripts.

Sigil (Planescape, Dungeons & Dragons)

The City of Doors at the centre of the Planescape campaign setting for Dungeons & Dragons — a torus-shaped city whose portals open onto every plane of existence.

Sovereign Sigil (Elden Ring Nightreign)

A currency item in the 2025 video game Elden Ring Nightreign (FromSoftware), earned through play and exchanged for in-game items. It shares the word “sovereign” with this site’s domain, and nothing else.

SIGIL (Sovereign Identity-Gated Interaction Layer)

An open-source software project published on GitHub as SIGIL, short for “Sovereign Identity-Gated Interaction Layer”. A separate project by separate authors, with no connection to SIGIL SARL.

The SIGIL on this site

SIGIL SARL (Sovereign Integrity Governance Infrastructure Labs) is a Cameroonian company, founded in 2023 and based in Buea, that builds sovereign governance infrastructure for public institutions: systems where the institution holds the keys, the data stays under the institution’s control, and every consequential action is authorized, bounded, and proven.

The company builds three systems: VIGIL, a governed cybersecurity and evidence platform; RÉCOR, a sovereign beneficial-ownership registry designed for Cameroon; and APEX, an anti-corruption intelligence platform for public procurement. All three are pre-deployment, and each is described on the systems pages exactly as it stands today.

SIGIL SARL was founded by Junior Thuram Nana, its Founder and Managing Director. More about the company and its record is on the company page. The only contact address we use is info@sigilsovereign.com.
